CONNAUGHTON CLAIMS BRONZE

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Replublic - UT Arlington senior-to-be sprinter Jared Connaughton added to his resume Saturday with a bronze medal in the men's 200 meters at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-23 Track Championships here.

Connaughton clocked a time of 21.14 seconds in the finals to take third place. San Antonio native and TCU sprinter Otis McDaniel set a meet record with a 20.61 and Derrick Atkins of the Bahamas was second with a 20.69.

Connaughton, who has the top Canadian 200-meter time this season with a 20.70 at the NCAA Midwest Regionals in Austin in May, was consistent during the meet with times of 21.22 in the prelims and 21.14 in the semifinals on Friday.

On Friday, he finished eighth in the 100 meters with a time of 10.66.

An estimated 500 participants from 28 member countries competed in the three-day event.
