CONNAUGHTON REPRESENTS CANADA

July 6, 2006

SANTO DOMINGO, Domincan Republic - UT Arlington senior-to-be sprinter Jared Connaughton will represent his native country of Canada at the 2006 North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association Under 23 Championships (NACAC U-23) July 7-9 at the Panamerican Stadium here.

An estimated 500 athletes from 28 countries are expected to competed in the three-day event.

Connaughton has one of the top 200-meter times in Canada this season. He ran a 20.59 to win the Bobby Lane/Arlington Invitational in April. He captured the Southland Conference 100 and 200-meter championship and advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships last month.

"I am pleased with the experience and depth that we have in some of the events, and I expect our veterans to provide the leadership needed to be successful on the international stage," said Bruce Pirnie, Athletics Canada Director of Development Programs.

Connaughton was named to the squad by Athletics Canada, the national sport governing body for track and field, cross country running, road running and road racing.
