CONNAUGHTON CLAIMS SILVER MEDAL

OTTAWA, Canada - UT Arlington senior sprinter Jared Connaughton captured a silver medal at the 2006 Canadian Track and Field Championships recently.

The defending Southland COnference 100- and 200-meter champion was clocked in 21.16 seconds in the final of the 200-meter event, finishing just behind winner Brian Barnett of Alberta, British Columbia (20.70).

Connaughton, had the fastest Canadian 200-meter time of the season heading into the meet, was second quickest in the preliminaries, posting a 21.07 to win the first heat. Only Barnett was better at 20.76.

The championship record is 20.40, set in 1986 by Atlee Mahorn. Connaughton shares the fastest 200-meter time of the season with Barnett. Connaughton had posted a 20.70 at the NCAA midwest regionals at Austin in May.
