UT Arlington renews a 48-year old rivalry Saturday when the West Division-leading Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi come to Texas Hall for a 7 p.m. contest.
The two teams played four times during the 1959-60 season and have not played since. TAMU-CC leads the series 3-1, splitting two games played in Arlington.
UT Arlington dropped games at Nicholls State (83-81 in OT) and Southeastern Louisiana (73-69) last weekend.
The game will feature a match up of two of the top post players in the league - TAMU-CC's 7-foot center Chris Daniels and UT Arlington junior Jermaine Griffin. Both are averaging more than 19.0 points per game in SLC games.
Daniels has been named the league's player of the week twice in the last three weeks after scoring 34 points against Central Arkansas. Griffin became the school's career blocks leader with 87 blocks after two against SELU. Offensively, he is ranked third nationally in field-goal percentage with 65.6% (103 of 157).
Sophomore forward Anthony Vereen has scored double figures in three of the four SLC games, including his second career double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds at Southeastern Louisiana last Saturday.
