Box Score
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi entered Texas Hall on a school-record seven-game winning streak. If Saturday night was any indication, it might be a long while before the Islanders see another L in their won-loss record.
TAMU-Corpus Christi used its depth and veteran lineup to roll past UT Arlington 89-63 in a Southland Conference men's basketball game Saturday night.
TAMU-CC (14-4, 5-0) had four players in double figures. Senior guard Josh Washington scored 14 of his game-high 20 points in the first half. Cedric Smith came off the bench with 16 points while 7-foot center Chris Daniels added 12 points and Scooby Johnson chipped in 10. UT Arlington (5-12, 1-4) lost for the 11th time in 13 games. Guard Rodrick Epps tied a career-high 19 points and sophomore forward Anthony Vereen added 11 points. The Mavs' big man, Jermaine Griffin, was held to nine points.
"(TAMU-CC) is a veteran team and they play well together," said UT Arlington Head Men's Basketball Coach Scott Cross. "They play hard and they are a mature team that knows how to play the game. They have a lot of confidence after winning seven straight and winning breeds winning."
TAMU-CC jumped out to a 10-point lead in the first six minutes of the game and never looked back. The Islanders lead swelled to 25 points in the first half, 47-22, after a 3-pointer by Washington.
The second half was much the same. TAMU-CC shot 72.2 percent from the field (13 of 18) in the second half. UT Arlington never got within 15 points in the second half as the Islanders had 10 players score in the game.
UT Arlington will travel to UTSA for a make up game originally scheduled for Thursday at the Convocation Center. Tip off is at 7 p.m.
