LUBBOCK, Texas - UT Arlington senior Jared Connaughton (Charlottetown, Canada) continued his dominance this 2007 indoor season, winning the 55 meter and 200-meter races on the final day of the Texas Tech Invitational at the Athletic training Center here Saturday.
Connaughton blazed the field that included runners from Texas Tech, Division II power Abilene Christian and North Texas with a time of 6.38 seconds to win the 55 meters. He clocked a time of 21.41 to take the prize in the 200 meters.
Connaughton led a trio of Mav sprinters in the 55 meters. Senior Coby Morrison (Wichita Falls, Texas) placed third with a 6.57 and newcomer Jarid Vaughan (North Bay, Canada) was seventh with a 6.67. Morrison also took third in the 200 meters with a 22.01 while Vaughan was seventh with a 22.31.
Sophomore Idilio Campos placed in both the 800 meter and mile run Saturday. The Mission, Texas, product was second in the 800 meters with a season-best 1:54.52.
Senior transfer Koby Styles (Holliday, Texas) took sixth in the mile run with a 4:22.40.
Senior Jon McDowell (Odessa, Texas) tied for third in the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.11.
Freshman Idris Fahmi (Dallas, Texas) was seventh in the shot put with a put of 13.05 meters (42-09.75).
Jeremy Williams (Abilene, Texas) and Tristan Williams (Houston, Texas) both placed in the triple. Jeremy took seventh with a leap of 13.46 meters (44-02) and Tristen eighth with a 13.21 meters (43-04.25).
The Mavericks will return to action Feb. 3 when they compete at the Houston Indoor Invitational. The meet is the final tune up before the Southland Conference Championship, Feb. 16-17, at the Univ of Houston.
