The UT Arlington Mavericks look for their first 2-0 in Southland Conference play since 2002-03 when the Mavs host two-time defending conference champion Northwestern State at Texas Hall Saturday afternoon.
UTA (5-8, 1-0) shot 72.2% (13 of 18) from the field in the second half to come-from-behind and defeat Central Arkansas, 66-60, Thursday.
Four players scored in double figures in the win. Jermaine Griffin notched his sixth straight double figure scoring game with a game-high 15 points. Griffin leads the SLC in field goal percentage with 63.3% from the field. He needs three blocked shots to become the school's career leader and his 29 blocks this season is 14 behind the single-season record of 43 set by Paul Renfro in 1979-80
The Mavs returned to their big lineup for the league opener. Griffin, forwards Larry Posey and Anthony Vereen combined for 36 points, 14 rebounds and five assists.
Freshman guard Ro'ger Guignard made two 3-pointers in Thursday's win and needs just four more 3-pointers to move into the top 20 in single-season 3-pointers made.
