LAKE CHARLES, La. - UT Arlington fell 3-0 (28-30, 28-30, 28-30) at McNeese State in Southland Conference volleyball action Friday night.
Despite the loss, the Mavs (13-8, 6-2) stay a game ahead of Texas State for second place in the West Division. Texas State fell to Lamar 3-1 on Friday. McNeese State (11-11, 5-3) moves into a second-place tie in the East Division with Central Arkansas.to 11-11, 5-3.
Freshman Bianca Sauls and Ellen Murray led the Mavs with 12 kills each, while Torie Dacus led the defense with 18 digs.
The Mavericks jumped out to a 6-2 lead in game one and only allowed the Cowgirls to get within one before going on a 6-1 run to lead 15-9 and force McNeese to burn their first timeout. From there the Cowgirls began to slowly chip away at the Mavs lead and knotted it up at 26-26 before going on a 4-2 run to win game one 30-28.
In game two, McNeese led 4-1 before UTA answered with a 12-4 run to take the lead, 13-8. The Cowgirls tied the game 20-20 and charged ahead to win game two, 30-28.
Game three saw the Cowgirls take a 16-11 advantage. A pair of Murray kills and a Cowgirl error brought the Mavs with in one, 17-18. From there McNeese scored three straight points to lead 21-17 and never relinquished the lead to win the game and match.
The Mavs look to rebound at they closeout their weekend road trip at Lamar with the first serve set for 3 p.m. on Saturday in Beaumont.
