AUSTIN - UT Arlington men's tennis team finished the first day of competition at the Wilson/ITA South Central Regional Championships.
Sophomore Dmitry Minkin advances in the main singles bracket with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Lamar's Maciej Bogusz. He is scheduled to face-off with the fifth seeded Dominik Mueller from Baylor on Sunday.
Freshman David Costa won his first match of the tournament 6-4, 6-3 over UTSA's Rodrigo Morgado, but fell in the round of 64 to Texas Tech's Sinisa Markovic, 6-1, 7-6.
Sophomores Gonzalo Bienzobas and Daniel Bello along with freshman Hugo Taracido all dropped their round of 64 matches, falling to the consolation bracket.
In doubles action Baylor's Attila Bucko and Dominik Mueller knocked out Bello and Minkin, 8-3. Bienzobas and Tarzcido battled, but eventually fell 9-7 to Texas A&M's Kayvon Karimi and Jerry Makowski.
The Mavs will look to advance as action continues on Sunday in Austin.
