HOUSTON, Texas - UT Arlington softball downed host Houston, 4-2, in its second game of the Wilson DeMarini Invitational Friday. Freshman Brittany Washington hit a walk-off home run with two outs to lift the Mavs past the Cougars.
Freshman Cara Hulme picked up the win for the Mavs (1-1) in her first collegiate appearance. Hulme gave up only two runs on six hits, striking out two. Barbie Love took the loss for Houston (0-1) giving up two runs on one hit.
Houston struck first scoring a pair of runs in the second. UTA cut the Cougars lead in half the next inning when with the bases loaded Dee Jay Nelson was hit by a pitch to score Courtney Anderson.
In the seventh Katie Jones hit a double and Courtni Anderson drew a walk to set-up Washington's three-run shot to left field for the win.
UTA is scheduled to face-off with Michigan for the second time in two days Saturday at the Wilson DeMarini Invitational at 11 a.m. in Houston. The Mavs will then meet Mississippi for a 1:30 p.m. start.
