ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington senior shortstop Kyle Rudy was named to the 2007 All-Southland Conference third team, while junior designated hitter Danny Slinkman earned honorable mention honors, the league office announced Monday.
A preseason second-team selection, Rudy (Arlington, Texas) led the Mavs offensively with a .374 average, 71 hits, 29 runs scored and 87 total bases. He also tied Slinkman for the team lead with 13 doubles. Rudy started 51 games this season and hit safely in 40 of those contests. He led the team with 23 multi-hit games, including eight three-hit games.
Slinkman (Arlington, Texas) earned honorable mention honors after hitting .333 with 13 doubles, three triples, one home run and 28 RBIs in 44 contests. He led the team in triples and slugging percentage (.468), while tieing for the team lead in doubles and RBIs.
Regular season champion UTSA led the way with eight all-conference selections, while Lamar had a league-best four first-team selections.
Stephen F. Austin's Steven Hill earned Player and Hitter of the Year honors, while Sam Houston State's Luke Prihoda earned Pitcher of the Year accolades. UTSA swept the remaining three superlatives as Trent Lockwood was Newcomer of the Year, Tim Palincsar Freshman of the Year and Sherman Corbett Clay Gould Coach of the Year.
