MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - UT Arlington led leads of 26-24 slip away in games two and four as the Mavericks dropped their third-straight match at the Blue Raider Bash to Northeastern 30-19,26-30, 27-30, 27-30.
The Mavs (5-5) took advantage of some sloppy play by the Huskies early on as three hitting errors and four service errors helped open a 12-8 advantage. UTA would continue to play mistake-free volleyball in opening up a seven-point advantage on a block from Ellen Murray and Teena Sobczak. The lead grew to double digits on a kill from Sobczak before Emily Nedderman set up game point with a kill and ended the game with a service ace.
UTA jumped out early in the second game as four more Huskies' errors helped the Mavs to a 9-4 advantage. NU would battle back and take the lead 20-19 on a service ace by Jessica Tkachuk. The score would remain within one point until a Torie Dacus kill and a NU hitting error gave the Mavs a 26-24 advantage.
NU (5-6) would call a momentum changing timeout as the Huskies emerged to score the next six points and take the game.
The second game started with the Huskies jumping to a 7-3 advantage before the Mavs returned the favor to tie the score 10-10. After splitting the next 20 points, NU would surge ahead by five. UTA would have one final run as two kills from Ellen Murray and another from Emily Nedderman pulled the Mavs within two, but a service error would end the rally and the game.
The Mavs again fell behind early in the fourth game before getting their act together to take a 20-16 advantage on a kill from Murray and Nedderman. The lead would grow to five on a kill from Nedderman before a Huskies' rally cut the lead to 26-24. Like in the second game, NU would take control from their and end the game and the match.
Sobczak paced the Mavs attack with 11 kills and 10 digs. Murray added 11 kills, while Bianca Sauls chipped in with seven kills in the fourth game.
The Mavs return to the court on Sept. 14 as they take on Iowa in the first match of the Hawkeye Holiday Inn Challenge. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
