Two kills by ACU and a few attack errors is what sparked the Wildcats to increase their lead, capturing the first set.

The Mavs never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that showcased four lead changes before the Mavs took over the lead. The reigning WAC Libero of the Year Glenn provided consistent aggressive serves that kept the Wildcats off balance, allowing the Mavs to open up a 17-7 lead – featuring three kills by Camryn McMinn during the run – that propelled UTA to a 25-20 win to even the match, 1-1.
