ARLINGTON, Texas - Senior Maryann Abanobi led five Mavericks in double digit scoring with 12 points in UT Arlington's 80-58 win over Central Arkansas on Thursday at Texas Hall.
Freshman Shalyn Martin led UTA (6-6, 1-0 SLC) on the glass with ten rebounds, while Meaghan Kelleybrew led Central Arkansas (2-12, 0-1 SLC) with 17 points and 11 boards.
A put-back from junior Erin Dixon at the 12:30 mark gave UTA the early seven-point advantage. Four and half minutes later the Mavs extend their lead to 13 (24-11) with a 9-3 run sparked with a jumper from Abanobi.
Sophomore LaTosha Duffey hit a tre with 2:56 left in the first half to push UTA's lead to 13 (36-23). The Mavericks held a 40-28 lead at the break.
UTA used a 6-0 run to open the second half, which included Abanobi hitting 4-of-4 from line.
With 4:50 left on the clock, UTA took its largest lead of the game when Abanobi converted on an old fashion three-point play. Over the next two minutes, the Mavs went on an 8-2 run to push the lead to 26 (78-52).
The Mavs will be back in action with their second conference game of the season on Saturday at 4 p.m. UTA will play host to Northwestern State who dropped its conference opener at Texas State on Thursday.
