FRISCO, Texas - Freshman Hugo Taracido was named men's tennis Southland Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Thursday afternoon. The Pontevedra, Spain native went 3-0 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles action last week to earn his first weekly conference honor.

Taracido won all three of his singles matches this week in straight sets, helping the Mavs to a trio of wins including a pair of Southland Conference victories.

At the No. 3 singles position, Taracido started the week winning 6-0, 6-3 over Columbia's Bogdan Borta. He then made quick work of UTSA's Andre Moreira winning 6-1, 6-0 on Friday before defeating Nirvick Mohinta of UTPA 6-3, 6-4. With doubles partner sophomore Gonzalo Bienzobas the duo went 2-1 at the No. 2 spot.

The Mavs will continue league action on Tuesday, April 1 when they host Southeastern Louisiana at the UTA Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
