FRISCO, Texas - The Southland Conference announced the women's basketball player of the week on Sunday as UT Arlington freshman Shalyn Martin claimed her first and the Mav's second award of the 2007-08 season.
In their last game before heading to the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas for the 22nd annual Southland Conference Women's Basketball Tournament, Martin came through against the SLC West Division champions and No. 1 seed Texas State posting her first career double-double (19 pts, 10 rbs) securing UTA as the No. 2 seed.
For the season, Martin is averaging 8.7 points per game, which makes her the third highest point producer for the Mavericks. She leads the team with 20 blocks and 29 steals on the season heading into this Wednesday's SLC Tournament game with McNeese State.
As the No. 2 seed at the tournament UTA will take-on McNeese State at noon on Wednesday in the opening game at the Merrell Center.
