ARLINGTON, Texas -- The UT Arlington men's tennis team won its fourth consecutive dual match, defeating Southeastern Louisiana 5-2 in Southland Conference action Tuesday at the UTA Tennis Center. The Mavericks (8-9, 3-2 SLC) have not lost since March 11.
UTA grabbed the first point by winning two of three doubles matches against the Lions (13-6, 2-2). The No. 1 tandem of freshman David Costa and sophomore Dmitry Minkin defeated Ondrej Krivka and Matthieu Leboucher 9-7. Freshmen Nishant Hari and Brieuc Hamon were edged 9-8 by SLU's Jakub Kwasniewicz and Julien Roussel at No. 2 doubles, but the No. 3 duo of freshman Hugo Taracido and sophomore Gonzalo Bienzobas secured the point with an 8-5 victory against Alexis Biarneix and Vladimir Paunic.
Costa completed his perfect day with a 6-3, 7-5 win against Leboucher at No. 1 singles.
The Mavericks picked up three more straight-set singles victories. Taracido defeated Krivka 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3, while Hamon turned back Roussel 6-4, 7-6 at No. 4 and Bienzobas beat Biarneix 6-4, 7-6.
At No. 2 singles, Minkin rallied to force a third set, but fell to Paunic 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 to lose the point. Pavol Derkay defeated Hari 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
The UT Arlington men's tennis team returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. against Lamar at the UTA Tennis Center.
