AUSTIN - - UT Arlington's 4x400-meter relay team ran a regional-qualifying time of 3:09.06 for third place Saturday afternoon at the Texas Relays.
The team of Takeshi Fujiwara, Jarid Vaughan, Cordero Gray and Eddie Beckwith finished third, just behind UT El Paso and North Texas. The time recorded for UTA - the defending Southland Conference outdoor champions - was faster than any recorded by the 4x400 all of last outdoor season. It was two seconds faster than the best time through two meets this year.
The Mavericks also got a solid performance from their 4x100-meter relay squad.
The team of Gray, Byron Majors, Vaughan and Beckwith finished seventh with a regional-qualifying time of 40.48, which is better than the 40.66 the Mavericks ran at the UTA Bobby Lane Invitational earlier this year.
