ARLINGTON, Tex. - Amanda Aguilera turned in her third consecutive double-double, but it wasn't enough to overcome UT Arlington's uncharacteristic sloppy play during Central Arkansas' 3-1 win Saturday afternoon at Texas Hall.
The Mavericks committed a season-high eight ball-handling errors and hit at just a .090 clip in the Sugar Bears' 23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-18 win.
"We kind of beat ourselves up a little bit," UTA coach Diane Seymour said. "It was not a fantastic volleyball match by any stretch, but we blocked the same as them, they only out-dig us by two, they only had one more service ace than us. We were right there except for the kill production. It comes down to our seniors a little bit, though they made some nice contributions on defense."
The game marked the 29th consecutive regular-season conference win for Central Arkansas (17-6, 7-0).
The Mavericks came out strong in the first set, hitting .256. However, they started making mistakes over the next few set. UTA finished the set with a total of 16 errors in Central Arkansas' 25 points and hit just .032 after the first set.
"If you don't have your A-game, you're not going to beat one of the best teams in your conference," Seymour said.
Aguilera ran her streak of double-doubles to three with her 14-kill, 16-dig performance. It marked her seventh straight match with 10-plus kills and 10th double-digit kill total in 12 starts this season.
Tara Frantz tallied 11 kills.
Libero Alicia Shaffer also continued her strong run, producing more than 20 digs for the sixth time in seven matches. Shaffer finished with a team-high 22 digs.
Raegan Daniel finished the match with 30 assists, 13 digs and tied a career high with six blocks.
Bianca Sauls and Kendall Whitson both added 14.
Emily Shearin produced seven blocks. The Mavs finished with 10 blocks, matching the Sugar Bears in that category.
For Central Arkansas, Cristin Curl led the team with 30 digs. Jessica Hays and Chloe Smith paced the offense with 13 kills apiece.
The Mavericks (9-11, 3-3) return to the court Thursday night when they host Stephen F. Austin at Texas Hall. Thursday night's match is also UTA's "Dig Pink" match, during which the players will wear custom-made pink jerseys to increase breast-cancer awareness.
