Adolphus Jones breaks Southland conference record

Feb. 13, 2010

ARLINGTON, Texas - Adolphus Jones has set the Southland conference record in the heptathlon at the Iowa State Classic.

Jones collected 5,532 points total and has qualified for the NCAA championships already. He finished no worse than fifth place in any event.

The prior record was set by Justin Youngblood, then of UT San Antonio, in 2004.

He finished the event in first place and has the ninth best score in the nation in the event.

Junior Yavor Gerenski placed tenth in the men's long jump with a distance of 7 meters.

The majority of the track team was unable to attend the meet due to the inclement weather in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex.
