Arlington, Texas - A number of UTA track athletes can begin to make reservations for the NCAAs later this spring as they rank among the best in the nation in their events.
The NCAA Track and Field Championships has a new format this season for qualifications to the national meet. These new standards have the top 48 athletes in one of two regions, that declare, advancing to one of two regionals. The Mavericks will run at the Austin Regional with the finals coming in Eugene, Oregon.
Cordero Gray registered a season best 10.28 in the 100 meters at the Texas Relays over the weekend and that places him in third in the West Region. The time is also the eighth fastest time in the nation.
On the women's side, Antonia Hopkins has the 13th fastest 200 meter time at 23.99 while Jasmine Walls and Shannon Reynolds are in the top 48 with times of 11.97 and 11.98 in the 100 meters respectively. Reynolds is also in the top 48 with a time of 24.48 in the 200 meters.
Both men's and women's teams are back in action this weekend at the North Texas Classic in Denton on Saturday, April 10.
