USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award Minute - by Baseball America National Writer Aaron Fitt
ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington All-American Michael Choice was recently featured on the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Minute hosted by Baseball America National Writer Aaron Fitt.
Choice is mentioned as a top contender for the prestigious Golden Spikes Award, which he was named to the watch list on February 18.
After breaking the Mavericks all-time career home run record on May 1, Choice has added to his school record hitting a pair of home runs last weekend against Stephen F. Austin. He now has 34 for his career and he currently leads the Southland Conference with 16 home runs on the season.
Choice is also leading the conference with a .405 batting average and his 55 RBI rank second. In fact, Choice leads the conference in six statistical categories and is second in the league in two categories.
He leads the nation with 66 walks (school record) and is second in the nation with a .581 on-base percentage.
In addition, Choice has reached base safely in 61 consecutive games dating back to last season. In his last 109 games played, Choice has reached base safely with a base hit, walk or hit by pitch in 107 games.
