Mavericks Open Road Conference Play at California Baptist

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington Mavericks hit the road for their first Western Athletic Conference series away from home, facing California Baptist in a three-game set beginning Friday night at James W. Totman Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT.

UTA enters the weekend at 13-18 overall and 2-1 in WAC play following a series victory over Tarleton State at home. California Baptist comes in at 27-6 (2-1). The Mavericks will look to build on their recent conference success as they face one of the league's top teams on the road.

GAME NOTES

UT Arlington's lineup is led by Xavier Melendez, who enters the series hitting .364 with 47 hits, seven doubles, four home runs and 25 RBIs, posting a .512 slugging percentage across 30 starts. Harold Laracuente adds a .296 average with 34 hits, 10 doubles, a triple and a team-high 27 runs scored out of the leadoff spot, while Austin Phillips is batting .280 with 28 hits, five doubles, two home runs and 12 RBIs.

Behind them, Xander McAfee is hitting .254 with 30 hits, eight doubles, three home runs and 23 RBIs in 31 games, and Preston Knott has contributed a .253 average with 24 hits and nine RBIs while going 5-for-7 in stolen base attempts. Zach Mazoch has chipped in 22 hits and 14 RBIs, and catcher Ethan Ho is hitting .243 with 17 hits and eight RBIs, giving the Mavericks depth throughout the order as they head into road conference play.

On the mound, Kyle Winkler leads the staff with a 1.95 ERA across seven appearances, totaling 27.2 innings with 14 strikeouts and three wins. Caylon Dygert continues to anchor the rotation with a 2.17 ERA over eight starts, working 49.2 innings with 34 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .218 average. Out of the bullpen, Merek Sears has been effective with a 2.64 ERA and two saves in 30.2 innings, while Hayes Melville carries a 3.10 ERA with three saves in 16 appearances.
