Arlington, Texas - Four UT Arlington student-athletes from the track and field and cross country teams were named to the Southland Conference All-Academic teams.
Junior Dwight Robinson represented the men's team as he finished with a 3.20 GPA in biological chemistry. He is a two-time all-academic recipient. Robinson best performance of the outdoor season came at the SLC Championships where he recorded a first place finish in the 800m run which advanced him to regionals.
Megan Turner, Brittany Culbertson and Perri Ford represented the women's team, each earning their first recognition.
Turner, a finance major finished the year with a 3.43 GPA. The sprinter turned in a first place finish during the indoor season in the 600m dash and finished third overall at the SLC Outdoor Championships in the 400m hurdles, qualifying for regional's. Turned in a time of 1:01.21 in the 400m hurdles at the Northwestern State Invite for a second place finish.
Culbertson, a kinesiology major recorded a 3.88 GPA. She was part of the 4x100m relay team that earned a second place finish at the SLC Outdoor Championships.
Ford, a kinesiology major finished the year with a 3.77 GPA. She competed in both cross country and track and field. The junior recorded a fourth place finish at the SLC Championships in the 800m run with a time of 2:17.01.
The Southland Conference awards committee, which consists of one administrator from each of the 12 member schools, voted for the student-athletes of the year. The student-athlete of the year award is presented to the one male and one female student-athlete who achieve excellence in both academics and athletics. All nominees shall have earned at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and demonstrated achievement in athletics for at least two years at the nominating institution.
The all-academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance administrators from each Southland university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.
The 2010 Southland Conference Cross Country and Track and Field All-Academic Teams are comprised of student-athletes that competed in cross country, indoor track and field and/or outdoor track and field. Student-athletes earn automatic qualification onto the Southland Conference All-Academic Team if they maintain a GPA of 3.0 in addition to earning either first-team all-conference honors in any of the three seasons and/or a CoSIDA Academic All-District VI Selection.
