UT Arlington Season Opener Photo Gallery
The UT Arlington men's and women's cross country teams took home third place at the UTA Season Opener Saturday morning at Vandergriff Park in Arlington.
The women's team scored a total of 90 points placing them just behind TCU (32) and SMU (37). Baylor (111) took fourth, North Texas (144) finished fifth and Texas A&M-Commerce finished sixth.
Freshman Emily Koenig was at the head of the pack throughout the women's race and crossed the finish line in fifth place with a time of 11:28.93. Koenig was the only Maverick to finish in the top 10.
Senior Amanda McMahon wasn't far behind, finishing in 13th place with a time of 11:46.05 while junior Jennifer Carey took 20th place with a time of 12:16.58.
Perri Ford crossed the end line in 24th place with a time of 12:21.53 while Esther Abuto ran 12:40.37 for 28th place. Transfer Lindsey Putman, who ran unattached finished 30th overall with a time of 12:41.52.
Marissa Paz turned in a 32nd place finish with a time of 12:53.14 while Denisha Hicks finished 37th with a time of 13:20.72. Also running unattached was Jessie Diaz, who placed 38th overall with a time of 13:24.45. Sophia Yousefi finished 50th with a time of 15:04.73.
Cody Widener led the men's team finishing one spot shy of the top 10. Widener earned 11th place with a time of 21:21.88. Senior Heinz Schwarzkopf finished 15th overall with a time of 21:38.71 while newcomer David Rayo crossed the finish line in 16th place with a time of 21:52.95.
Eric Montou placed 18th overall with a time of 21:56.33 while Holton Hemby ran 22:26.77 for 27th place.
Kevin Vasquez, Aaron Purser and Johnny Camacho finished in 35th, 36th, and 37th while Jake Powers placed 44th overall.
The men finished with 87 total points just behind Baylor (31) and TCU (62). Texas A&M Commerce (101) finished fourth and North Texas (122) took fifth.
