Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic Final Results 
Notre Dame, Ind. - The UT Arlington golf team shot of 291 Tuesday and finished eighth at Notre Dame's Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic.
The Mavericks were consistent in the third round as the five players scores ranged from +2 to +4.
Newcomers Paul McConnell and Jesse Gibson each shot 2-over 72's to lead UTA Tuesday.
McConnell had a consistent day that included 14 pars, one birdie and three bogeys. Gibson's day was a little different as he carded four birdies that were offset by four bogeys and a double on the 18th.
A transfer from Colorado, McConnell finished the tournament at 10-over 220 and in a tie for 24th. Gibson meanwhile tied for 82nd with a total of 233 (+23).
"After a slow start to the tournament, we played better in each of the last two rounds," UTA head coach Jay Rees said. "We have not been able to put three good rounds together in each of the first two tournaments. To move up the national rankings we are going to have to do that."
Freshman Enrique Livas recorded a 3-over 73 in a round that had just two birdies and five bogeys including three in a four hole stretch. He finished the tournament in a tie for 44th at 225 (+15).
The veterans on the Mavericks team - Zack Fischer and Wes Worster - each shot 74 Tuesday. Each player managed to register just one birdie - Fischer on the par 5 5th and Worster on the par 4 15th.
Worster was the top individual for UTA as he finished at 8-over 218 which was good for a tie for 20th while Fischer was in a tie for 24th with McConnell at +10.
Jamey Taylor played as an individual and finished in a tie for 35th after shooting a 2-over 72 Tuesday.
Iowa was the team title while Travis Taylor Ji Hawn Park of San Francisco tied for individual medalist honors at 2-under.
The Mavericks will have a short week to get ready for their next tournament as they play at the Cabo Collegiate next week in Mexico.
