Arlington, Texas - UT Arlington junior Mindaugas Celedinas has been named the Southland Conference's men's tennis player of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Celedinas recorded one of the biggest wins of his career by defeating TCU's #55 Emanuel Brighiu, 3-6, 6-3 and 6-3. He was also a part of the men's No. 1 doubles that suffered an 8-6 loss to Brighiu and Christopher Price. Celedinas was responsible for the Mavericks lone win in TCU's 6-1 victory.
Honorable mention for this week's men's award goes to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi freshman Matt Westmoreland. A student-athlete must receive 25-percent of the votes from the league's SIDs in order to qualify for honorable mention.
Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
