WACO, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team has wrapped up their first fall tournament with the completion of the three-day Waco Fall Kickoff Classic from the Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor.
The Mavericks weekend was highlighted by two wins from
Yazid Lahjomri in the men's open singles, going 2-1 across singles action along with a 1-2 doubles record over the weekend with partner
Finbar McGarvey. Lahjomri defeated UTSA's Oskar Grzegorzewski in three sets on Friday while defeating Rice's Kabeer Kapasi on Sunday to wrap up the Mavs singles action.
The Mavs lone doubles win over the weekend came on the final day when Lahjomri and McGarvey defeated Abilene Christian's Luis Jose Nakamine and Merse Deli 8-6. The pair went 1-2 in doubles action over the weekend while McGarvey fell in his lone singles action over the tournament.
Both
Saul Berdullas and
Jesse Gothelf made the Mavs debut over the weekend with both battling but going 0-2 in singles action while they paired up for doubles play, going 0-3 over the tournament.
The Mavs return to action in early October when they travel south to Beaumont, Texas to compete in the three-day Ron Wesbrooks Invitational that is hosted by Lamar from Friday, October 3, through Sunday, October 5.
