ARLINGTON, Texas – The Western Athletic Conference announced on Thursday afternoon the 2024-25 men's tennis award recipients and All-Conference selections. Five Mavericks earned honors across First and Second Team.
A pair of Mavs were members of the All-WAC Singles First Team while UTA was represented with an All-WAC Doubles First Team selection.
Sophomore
Andres Medus closed out his 2024-25 season with a spot on the All-WAC Singles First Team, his second straight season with First Team honors. Medus went 14-5 over the season with the bulk of his damage coming from Court 2 where he went 11-3 while going 3-1 on Court 1 and 0-1 on Court 3. Medus' was at his best during the end of the season, winning his last five matches including his lone conference tournament match. In his last 10 matches, Medus boasted an 8-2 record.
Senior
Pedro Sasso had a strong showing during the course of the 2024-25 season that culminated in a spot on the All-WAC Singles First Team. Sasso posted a 7-8 record across courts one through four. Sasso carried a 4-3 record on Court 3, a 2-3 record on Court 4 with a 1-1 record on Court 2 and an 0-1 record on Court 1. Sasso scored the lone point for the Mavs in their match against No. 23 South Florida when Sasso defeated Elijah Cham in a three-set thriller 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 12-10.
The duo of
Meethre Barot and
Pedro Sasso led the Mavs all year in doubles action which earned them a spot on the All-WAC Doubles First Team. Barot and Sasso held an impressive 13-4 record with the majority of their action coming via Court 1 where they went 10-4. The duo went a perfect 3-0 on Court 2. In their last 10 matches, the pair went 6-4 and won their lone conference tournament doubles match.
UTA had a pair of representatives on the All-WAC Singles Second Team to round out this year's all-conference selections.
Returning sophomore
Yazid Lahjomri earned his first all-conference selection after his 8-5 record during the season punched his ticket to the All-WAC Singles Second Team. The bulk of Lahjomri's work came on Court 6 where he posted a 6-1 record while holding a 2-3 record on Court 5 and an 0-1 record on Court 4. He posted a season-high three-match win streak during the season and finished the year on a 6-2 run.
Freshman
Mattia Ricci made a great first impression in his rookie season with the Mavs, earning himself a spot on the All-WAC Singles Second Team. Ricci put together a 9-5 freshman campaign that saw him go 5-3 from Court 4. He went a perfect 2-0 on Court 5 and 2-2 on Court 3.
