AMES, Iowa - Romain Martin has made a name for himself so far this season in individual events.
Thursday, Martin showed what makes him a serious talent.
Competing in the heptathlon for the first time in his UT Arlington career, Martin turned in personal-bests in the 60m and the long jump and enters the final day leading all collegiate competitors at the Iowa State Classic.
Martin ranks third overall, behind a pair of unattached competitors.
Martin built a 116-point lead over Weston Leutz from North Dakota State who produced the second-best score among collegiate athletes.
Martin looks to secure the heptathlon championship among collegiate athletes Friday on Day 2 of the Iowa State Classic.
