Final Stats
Conway, Ark. - The UT Arlington women's basketball team dropped a 63-37 decision at Central Arkansas Sunday afternoon at the Farris Center. With the loss, the Mavs fell to 6-14 overall and 3-5 in conference action.
The Mavericks struggled to hold onto the ball committing costly turnovers in the opening minutes which lead to a 23-9 advantage for the Sugar Bears.
Tamara Simmons put the Mavericks in double-figures at 23-12 after connecting on a 3-pointer at the wing with 9:28 left to play in the half. The Sugar Bears continued to add to their lead but the Mavericks managed to cut the deficit down to 12 at 32-20 heading into the locker rooms.
In the first half alone, Southland Conference leading scorer Megan Herbert led UCA, scoring 10 points. The Sugar Bears recorded 12 points off of the Mavs 15 first half turnovers.
Central Arkansas opened the second half on a 7-2 run to up their lead 39-22 with 17:28 on the clock. The Mavericks struggles continued as the Sugar Bears rolled to a 49-28 advantage with 9:52 remaining.
With Shalyn Martin on the bench with foul trouble and Simmons out with a hurt back, UTA could not get their offense going.
Not one Maverick finished in double-figures. Jasmine Smith led UTA with eight points and 11 rebounds. UT Arlington finished the game committing 27 turnovers which led to 23 points for Central Arkansas.
Three Sugar Bears finished in double-digit scoring with Herbert leading the way with 15. Courtney Duever and Micah Rice each finished with 10 points.
The Mavericks finished the game shooting 29.6 percent from the field to the Sugar Bears 35.1 percent.
Up next for the Mavericks is a road match up against Sam Houston State on Wednesday, February 9 in Huntsville, Texas. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
