Storic named SLC Athlete of the Week

March 23, 2011

FRISCO, Tex. - UT Arlington sophomore Ivan Storic has been named the Southland Conference men's track and field athlete of the week, while Texas State senior Katherine Evans was named the conference's women's track and field athlete of the week, the league announced Wednesday.

Storic, a native of Belgrade, Serbia (Sports Gymnasium), turned in the ninth-best javelin throw in the nation this year competing at the Horned Frog Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas. Storic's event-winning throw (223 feet, 4 inches) ranked second in UTA program history and currently leads the Southland Conference by seven feet over Stephen F. Austin's Adam Wolfe (216-4).

A student-athlete must receive 25-percent of the votes from the league's SIDs in order to qualify for honorable mention. Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
