Laredo, Tex. - After the first 36 holes of the 60th Annual Border Olympics the UT Arlington golf team finds itself in 11th place.
The Mavericks improved in the second of two rounds Friday but it was not enough to move up the leaderboard, which is led by Arkansas.
UTA was among the leaders in the early in the day before finishing with a team total of 292 after the first round. The Mavs followed that with a 287 in round two for a three-over score of 579. All of the top 10 teams in the tournament are under par as a team.
Besides a majority of the teams shooting under par, 27 individuals broke par at the end of two rounds at the Laredo Country Club.
Zack Fischer leads the Mavericks as he shot 73-69 for a two-round total of two-under 142 to finish as the only UTA player under par.
Paul McConnell, who won his first collegiate tournament 10 days ago, is in a tie for 35th at one-over 145 after rounds of 73-72.
Wes Worster shot 75 in the first round but broke par with a one-under 71 in the second round and is in a tie for 43rd at two-over 146.
Other Mavericks playing this week include Carson Kallis (71-78, 149) who is in a tie for 62nd and Brad Lyle who is in a tie for 76th at nine-over 151.
Arkansas Sebastian Cappelen leads the individual medalist honors with an 11-under par score of 133.
The Mavericks will finish the tournament Saturday with a single 18-hole round. Live stats are available for the round at golfstat.com.
