Arlington, Texas - UT Arlington junior Natalia Mayuk has been named the Southland Conference women's tennis player of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Mayuk, a native of Belgorod, Russia (Mississippi State), helped lead the Mavericks to a 2-0 record (7-0 vs. Texas State, 7-0 vs. UTSA) last week and improve the team's overall conference mark to 6-0. The junior transfer finished the weekend 2-0 in both singles and doubles play against Texas State and UTSA.
Mayuk registered two straight set wins in singles action at the No. 4 position and teamed up with Giada D'ortona in the No. 2 doubles position, improving their record to 5-1.
Honorable mention this week goes to Lamar senior Mariaryeni Gutierrez, Southeastern Louisiana freshman Laura Verges and Stephen F. Austin senior Megan Ocanas. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland men's tennis sports information directors.
Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
