A stong round by the Mavericks' top three players Tuesday moved UTA up to a third place finish at the Jim West Intercollegiate.

Wes Worster finished second in the tournament after firing a two-under 70 in the final round for a six-under total of 210. He finished just one shot behind medalist Phillip Westermann of Southeastern Louisiana. The second place finish was the best of the season for the senior from South Africa.

"Our main three guys played well today and posted good scores to help us have a strong finish," UTA head coach Jay Rees said. "I'm proud of the way Wes played all week as well. Now we just have to keep working hard over the next two weeks to get ready for the conference tournament."

The Southland Conference coach Rees is talking about will take place at the Mavericks home course - Waterchase Golf Club - from April 25-27.

Zack Fischer finished with his best round of the tournament at one-under 71 to finish 12th at four-over 220. Hunter Brown had his second consecutive strong tournament finishing in a tie for 25th after finishing at eight-over 224.

Paul McConnell recovered nicely in the last two rounds after an opening 80 by shooting 72-73 to finish at 225 (+9) and in a tie for 32nd. Enrique Livas also had his best round of the tournament with a 76 Tuesday and finished at 236 and in a tie for 68th.

Carson Kallis finished in a tie for 19th at 223 playing as an individual while Brian Smith, also playing as an individual, was in a tie for 52nd after finishing at 231.

The Mavericks once again shot a team score of even par 288 Tuesday for the second consecutive day and finished at +14 as a team. Louisiana Tech won the tournament with a team score of one-under 863. UTA finished second among SLC schools in the tournament.
