
No. 69 Mavericks advance to championship match

Arlington, Texas - Tomorrow the UT Arlington women's tennis team will look to capture their sixth Southland Conference Tournament championship tomorrow at 1 p.m. against last year's champion Northwestern State.
UTA advanced to the championship match after winning a 4-0 decision against Texas State. The win improved the Mavericks to 19-4 overall and extended their win streak to 10.
The Mavericks easily won the doubles point and recorded three singles wins for the victory. The No. 2 doubles match went unfinished as well as the No. 1, 2 and 5 singles flights due to the Mavericks already winning the match.
Giada D'ortona and Natalia Mayuk improved their mark to 12-2 overall after winning an 8-3 decision against Jessica Laing and Mariana Perez in the No. 3 position.
SLC Player of the Year Daiana Negreanu and freshman of the Year Linda Aqvist recorded an 8-4 victory over Jessica Kahts and Melissa Hadad in the top flight.
The No. 2 flight of Maria Martinez-Romero and Nikola Matovicova went unfinished after already winning the point.
SLC Newcomer of the Year Mayuk was the first to finish her singles match, giving UTA a 2-0 advantage. The junior transfer easily won a 6-1, 6-1 decision against Laing in the No. 4 position.
D'ortona followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Van Den Bergh in the No. 6 flight. Martinez-Romero won her 10th straight singles match after winning a 6-4, 6-0 decision over Gabriela Rojas in the No. 3 position.
The Mavericks faced Northwestern State earlier this season and won 6-1. The Lady Demons road to the finals started with a 4-0 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and a 4-1 win against Lamar.
