
Former Maverick shines on WTA Tour

Arlington, Texas - Former UT Arlington women's tennis standout Daiana Negreanu is continuing her tennis career as a professional on the WTA Tour. She is currently competing in the Norman Wilkerson Memorial Tournament held in Atlanta, GA.
The former 2011 SLC Player of the Year opened the single's qualifying draw with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Lateefa Brown in the first round. After securing her first win, Negreanu advanced to the next round where she handed Danielle Dooley a straight set loss (6-0, 6-0).
With two wins under her belt, the All-SLC First Team recipient defeated Mayo Hibi with scores of 6-3, 2-6 and 6-4 which advanced her to the final round of the qualifying draw.
Negreanu won a 6-7, 6-3 and 6-0 decision over Sonya Latycheva, advancing her to the singles main draw.
"Daiana is determined to continue to develop her career as a pro player in the WTA Tour," said head coach Diego Benitez. "During her last year in college she knew that she needed to finish strong in order to be ready for the tour, now she has qualified for the main draw tournament on her very first event. We are so proud of her and will continue to watch her development closely as a pro player".
