WBB: Mavs host Wayland Baptist in Exhibition game

Oct. 25, 2012

ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington women's basketball team will host the Wayland Baptist Flying Queens Monday, Oct. 29 for an exhibition game at 7 p.m. at College Park Center.

The Mavericks are returning 11 members of the 2012-11 program, and are joined by a combination of newcomers and freshmen, giving the team a 17-member squad.

"You can't have enough experience," head coach Samantha Morrow said. "With four of our starters back, they should know what to expect for a Division I basketball season, and what our expectations are for the practices and games."

UT and the Flying Queens have met four times during the regular season, with Wayland Baptist leading the series 4-0. The last time the two programs met was in 1985, with Wayland Baptist defeating the Mavericks 79-85 in Arlington.

Morrow expects her new team members to make an immediate impact on the team and they have been pushing the returners to work harder in practice.

"Our newcomers have each brought more intensity and more competition to the court," Morrow said. "They are challenging our returners for playing time and I see a different line up than we had last year."

Admission to the game is free. Doors open at 6 p.m.
