Final Team and Player Results
EL PASO, Texas - Paul McConnell led a contingent of four Mavericks in the top 20, as UT Arlington placed second overall Saturday at the Price's Give `Em Five Invitational hosted by UTEP.
"We had our chances to win the tournament," UT Arlington coach Jay Rees said. "We got our best effort of the fall from our No. 4 and No. 5 men. Cameron Hollek and Cash Wilkerson did a pretty good job for the whole week."
McConnell was tied for second after his first two rounds. The senior shot a 2-over 74 on Saturday, finishing tied for fourth with a 3-under-par 213 for the tournament.Riley Fleming and Wilkerson tied for 13th at 1 over.
Hollek (T20) and Hunter Brown (T38) rounded out the Mavericks' five-man team. Josh Cole, playing as an individual, placed 70th.
"Paul had a chance to win the tournament, but made a couple of double bogeys in the final round that hurt," Rees said. "Riley Fleming played a lot of good golf, unfortunately he made a few mistakes that kept him from winning the tournament. Hunter competed hard as always, but did not have a good putting week."
The Mavericks came into the third round sitting third after Friday's play. UT Arlington has two second-place showings this fall, including a runner-up showing at Kiawah Island Invitational in September.
Price's Give `Em Five Invitational concludes UT Arlington's fall schedule. The Mavericks won't return to links until Feb. 11-12 at the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational.
