SOUTH BEND, Indiana - After a 30-minute delay due to weather, the UT Arlington golf team began its second day of the Fightin Irish Gridiron Classic. The Mavericks ended Round 2 on Monday in seventh place with a team score of 588, just two strokes out of fifth.
The Mavericks were third after Sunday's first round.
"We had a bad putting day," UTA head coach Jay Rees said. "It was frustrating for the guys and our goal for tomorrow is to be the low round of the day."
Senior Hunter Brown played at a steady pass as he completed the day with an even-par 71 and is tied for fourth.
"Hunter played solid all day," Rees said. "He had his chances to be under par, but he just left a few shots out there. Overall, I am very proud of his effort today."
Freshman Riley Fleming shot a 77, 6-over par for the day, two strokes behind senior Paul McConnell, who ended the day with a total score of 147, 5-over par. The two each picked up an eagle, shooting a 3 on the par-5 10th hole.
Cameron Hollek and Cash Wilkerson shot a 5-over 76 and are tied for 48th. Brad Mason, competing as an individual, shot 2-under 69 and is tied for 18th.
Michigan State is at the top of the leaderboard with a team score of 568, one-over-par.
Wilkerson will start Tuesday's final round for the Mavericks with an 8:30 a.m. tee time. Follow the Mavericks at golfstat.com.
