Arlington, Texas - Student-athletes participated in Dealing with the Media and UT Arlington Trio Pre-College Program in September.
The Dealing with the Media workshop was done in partnership with The University of Texas at Arlington's public relations department and included about 40 student-athletes.
"I have given interviews to the shorthorn and UTA radio, but never understood the pressures of an actual press conference," senior cross country athlete Holton Hemby said. "After doing a practice interview at the UTA studio I have a new found respect for athletes that have to give interviews like that after every race, game, and or match."
TRIO is a set of federally-funded college opportunity programs that motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds in their pursuit of a college degree. More than 840,000 low-income, first-generation students and students with disabilities -- from sixth grade through college graduation -- are served by more than 2,900 programs nationally.
TRIO programs provide academic tutoring, personal counseling, mentoring, financial guidance, and other supports necessary for educational access and retention.
