ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington hosted its 6th annual Volleyball Alumni Weekend this past Saturday and Sunday in conjunction with the Mavericks' Sunday match against Appalachian State. The weekend's festivities included the alumni volleyball match, a meet and greet with current players, a reunion and recognition at Sunday's match.
"It's something that I look forward to every single year," Alumnus Jennifer Cross said. "Not only do we get to reminisce but hopefully we get to set an example for those current players to stay in touch with each other when they are done playing."
Twenty former players attended the weekend's festivities, which took place at College Park Center. While all the volleyball alumni were recognized at the intermission of Sunday's match, the 1989 volleyball team was highlighted in the 25th anniversary of their Final Four run.
"This is my first time coming since I left UTA," said Adriana Campon, the setter on the 1989 Final Four team. "This was a lot of fun and I hope that I can come next year."
The Volleyball Alumni Weekend was hosted by the Maverick Club. The Maverick Club serves as the primary booster organization for UTA Athletics. Members of the Maverick Club support the athletic department through their annual donations, attendance at home sporting events, and general promotion of UTA Athletics. The Maverick Club currently supports fourteen NCAA, Division I sports and nearly 220 student-athletes.
Upcoming Maverick club events include an Oct. 28th Maverick Club Basketball Tip-Off Reception prior to Maverick Madness, a Nov. 1 Golf Alumni Matchplay Tournament at Rolling Hills Country Club, the Ultimate Huddle Football Reunion and the All Athletic Alumni Homecoming reception, both on Nov. 22.
