UTA Receives Second-Largest Unrestricted Gift in Athletics History

ARLINGTON, Texas – Former UTA Professor Jim C Quick and his wife Sheri have made a gift to provide lasting support for student-athletes.

The Quicks' gift, the second largest unrestricted gift in UTA Athletics history, will fuel UTA Athletics, offsetting the cost of significant resources for student-athletes, such as tuition, tutoring, nutrition, sports equipment and more.

"Sheri and I were inspired by the outstanding gift from alumnus Mike Baylor and wanted to invest in Athletics on a larger scale," Quick said. "UTA Athletics fundraising has gone to the next level over the last couple of years and we wanted to be a part of that movement."

Quick, a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel awarded the Legion of Merit, has won many academic awards throughout his illustrious career, including the 2019 John and Judy Goolsby Award from the College of Business; a 2016 Regents' Outstanding Teacher Award; 2016 Professor of the Year Medallion, Beta Gamma Sigma; and the 2002 Harry and Miriam Levinson Award from the American Psychological Foundation.

"We really appreciate the Quicks' phenomenal gift and their continuous support of UTA Athletics," UTA Athletics Director Jon Fagg said. "Jim and Sheri have a strong history with UTA, and this further illustrates their dedication to help continue to elevate UTA Athletics and make a long-lasting impact on our student-athletes."

Jim and Sheri are members of the 1895 Society at UT Arlington, the Ashbel Smith Circle and Chancellor's Council Executive Committee of The University of Texas System and the President's Circle of Colgate University. Jim is a member of the Rotary Club of Arlington, where he and Sheri are Paul Harris Fellows and members of the Arch Klumph Society.

"We couldn't be more excited about this impactful gift from Jim and Sheri," Deputy Athletic Director for Development and General Manager of Athletics Ira Childress said. "This will be a gamechanger for our department and our student-athletes. We greatly appreciate their generosity."
