LINCOLN, Neb. -- UT Arlington senior sprinter Clayton Vaughn smashed a school record by logging the fastest 60-meter time in the NCAA this season, a blistering 6.55, Saturday afternoon to highlight the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.

Vaughn's time bested his own school mark by .06 and ranks as the third-fastest time in the United States and the eighth-best clocking in the world this season. He won the race by .09.

In addition, Vaughn placed sixth in the 200m with a time of 21.28, the best mark in the Sun Belt Conference this year.

The native of Sulphur Springs, Texas was named the Men's Most Valuable Performer of the meet. It was just his third meet back since he suffered a season-ending leg injury last March.

"Clayton is taking his sprinting to the next level," UT Arlington coach John Sauerhage said. "We are excited to watch him the rest of the indoor season as well as in the outdoor year. And from a team standpoint, we are really looking forward to the championships in Birmingham in two weeks."

On the women's side, Ashly Wright set an indoor career best in the 800m with a 2:07.63. Her time was just .25 off the top collegiate time at the meet and is the best in the league by three seconds.

Ryan Tilotta also had a strong meet, as he took fifth in the mile (4:09.21) with the second-best clocking in school history. He also landed sixth in a special running of the 3000 meters (8:24.70).

In the field, Heath Skelton set a personal best in the shot put with a toss of 52-08 3/4. It was good for fifth place at the meet and also ranks fifth in the SBC.

Additionally, Renan Palma improved his league-best time in the 60m hurdles to 8.13. Emil Blombergalso had a strong effort in the 3000m (8:25.87), posting a personal-best time that is fifth-best in school history.

For the women, Hannah Nilsson took fifth in the 800 meters (2:16.25), while Sydney Hampton placed fifth in the mile (5:04.49). Breonna Baldwin had a season-best time in the 400 (57.35), while Noemie Forget placed eighth in the pole vault (11-10 ¾).

UTA is next in action at the Sun Belt Conference Championships (Feb. 24-25) in Birmingham, Ala.
