ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington men's tennis defeated Cleveland State 5-2 Tuesday afternoon at the UTA Tennis Center.
"It was a tricky match out there with the wind conditions," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "We swept the doubles play using our fundamentals. Cleveland State was a tough opponent, but we played great singles today."
With the win UTA improved to 5-9 overall and has now won two matches in a row after a four-match losing skid.
The Mavericks were able to get out to a strong start, winning all three doubles matches to claim the point heading into singles competition.
Sophomore Marek Pesicka came through for the Mavericks winning 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 1 singles spot. Freshman Daniel Armengol, Mario Muniesa and Daniel Echeverry also won their singles play to help push the Mavericks to a 5-2 victory.
The Mavericks return to the court Friday to host Portland at 2 p.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
