DENTON, Texas - UT Arlington softball fell 3-0 to cross-town rival North Texas Wednesday night at Lovelace Stadium.
The Mavericks dropped to 17-25 overall. Senior Callie Collins made her 20th start of the season and is 9-10 after the loss.
"Callie came out today and gave us a really great opportunity to win. She really went against the hitters," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said. "The ball really bounced their way today and they were able to get some key hits in key situations and found some holes. We need to keep battling and we need to find a way to get that hit when the game's on the line."
North Texas put two runs on the board in the bottom of the second innings on a throwing error. The Mean Green put another run on the board in the third inning on a shallow fly ball to center, just out of reach of center fielder Jolene Schaefer.
Kasey Everett walked to start the seventh inning for the Mavericks and advanced to second on a wild pitch, but was left stranded. UTA managed three hits and left nine runners on base.
The Mavericks return home to host Sun Belt opponent ULM in a doubleheader Friday starting at 5 p.m. and a single game Saturday at 1 p.m. UTA is 2-9 in Sun Belt play.
