MOBILE, Ala. - UT Arlington sits a win away from positioning itself in the Sun Belt Conference championship game and standing in the way is Arkansas State.
The Mavericks (32-25) and Red Wolves (32-26) play for a position in the championship today at 12:30 p.m. A UTA win would clinch a berth in the finale, while a loss would mean that the teams meet again later today at a time to be determined.
Arkansas State took 2-of-3 games when the teams met in March, however, UTA leads the all-time series record 36-35
Travis Sibley continues to be UTA's hottest player in conference tournaments. The 2012 Southland Conference Tournament MVP is hitting .625 in two games with a team-high six RBI and five hits.
Senior Brad Vachon (5-5) takes the mound for UTA. Vachon struck out a season-high nine in his last start coming on Senior Day against Texas State last weekend. In his last start in a conference tournament, Vachon struck out his career high with 11 in last season's Western Athletic Conference tournament.
A UTA win in either potential games today send UTA to the championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
