ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington left-hander
Ty Zahradnik has been named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Pitcher of the Week after delivering a dominant outing in the Mavericks' series-sweeping win over Villanova on Sunday at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Zahradnik turned in a career performance in the 2–1 victory, working 8.1 innings and allowing just one unearned run on two hits while striking out a career-high eight batters with only one walk. The sophomore left-hander carried a no-hitter into the fourth, faced just two batters over the minimum through eight innings and used an efficient 97-pitch effort to keep the Wildcats off balance and give UTA a chance to complete the sweep.
Villanova's only run against Zahradnik came without the benefit of an RBI hit, as an error and passed ball set up an unearned tally in the fourth. From there, he retired 15 of the final 17 hitters he faced, allowing just one baserunner over the fifth through eighth innings before exiting in the ninth with the tying and go-ahead runs on base.
For the week, Zahradnik anchored a UTA pitching staff that held Villanova to a combined four runs over the final two games of the series, capping a stretch that saw the Mavericks climb in the WAC standings with three straight home wins. The honor marks his first career WAC weekly award and underscores the continued emergence of UTA's weekend rotation as a strength midway through the 2026 campaign.
