SAAC team grows together at John Newcombe Ranch

ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington student-athletes from SAAC went to John Newcombe Ranch in New Braunfels for a leadership weekend retreat from August 22-24.

The focus of the weekend was on "team-first leadership" training, team development and building meaningful relationship with each other. The students also got to do the high and low ropes course over the weekend.

"We shared each others life stories, worked together, motived and ultimately bonded together," track athlete Ryan DeLeon said.

The students also were challenged to step out of their comfort zone and try new things.

"I was able to set some of my fears aside for a moment and trust my other SAAC leaders while participating in the high ropes course challenge," baseball player Darien McLemore said.

The Mavs came together and not only grew as individual leaders, but as a team.

"I learned that no matter if you play the same sport or not, we all need each other," women's basketball player Krioni Bruce said.
