ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington men's and women's teams both jumped in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South Central Regional rankings. Both squads are the highest rated teams in the Sun Belt Conference.
The men moved up two spots to sixth in the regional standings, while the women leaped four places into eighth. Both are coming off strong performances against quality teams at the UTA Season Opener and the Bear Twilight Invitational.
"We are pleased with where we are," UTA coach John Sauerhage said. " We are racing and training well and looking forward to the bigger meets to come."
On the men's side, UTA and Texas State (13th in South Central) are the lone regionally-ranked teams. In addition to UTA, the women's teams from Arkansas State (10th in South Central) and Georgia State (11th in South) are ranked.
Last year, the men climbed as high as third in the South Central, the best ranking in school history. Meanwhile, the women spent the entire season ranked among the region's top 15.
The Mavericks are next in action at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota on Saturday, Sept. 27. Now in its 27th year, the Griak hosts six college races and is one of the largest meets in the country.
